Code of Ethics

Contrary to an act or a regulation, a code of ethics is written in general terms. It contains all the rules and duties governing a profession, the conduct of those who exercise this profession and the relationships between these professionals, their clients and the public.

The Code of ethics of damage insurance professionals and the Code of ethics of claims adjusters are designed to make the rules of ethics governing the profession easier to understand; it guides representatives in their daily work and thus maintains the public’s trust in their integrity and competence. This code is the centrepiece of professional legislation. The rules it contains set out the minimal level of acceptable professional practice.

Please note:

In addition to their ethical obligations, representatives must comply with all the provisions of the Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services as well as with all regulations enacted pursuant to it.

Annotated editions of the code of ethics

These annotated editions of the Code of ethics of damage insurance professionals and the Code of ethics of claims adjusters are designed to clarify claims adjusters’ and representatives’ questions related to their professional conduct.

Warning:
The comments are not binding on the Discipline Committee of the Chambre de l’assurance de dommages, which is an independent tribunal.
