Mandatory Course

The mandatory course for the 2024-2026 reference period is entitled The Insured's Journey: A Road Punctuated by Milestones.

The main objective is to understand and implement best practices that agents and brokers use in their advisory role, and that claims adjusters use in real-life situations in order to explain and inform.

Get a head start on your reference period and take the mandatory course today!

The Insured’s Journey: A Road Punctuated by Milestones will make you a better professional. Using real-life scenarios, you will be asked to reflect on best practices, identify the gaps and issues the characters face, find solutions, and understand the importance of ethics in customer service.

The course has been divided into three separate modules, plus a final exam, and is available in three different versions. Each version has been adapted to the learning needs of one of the three industry certifications. Participants may choose from the following versions:

  • Personal lines insurance agent of broker;
  • Commercial lines insurance agent or broker;
  • Claims adjuster.

Currently, only the personal lines insurance version is available. The others will be available for purchase on ÉduChAD before the end of 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

The mandatory course’s general objective is to help certified members avoid ethical shortcomings that have been repeatedly observed in the professional practice of damage insurance and claims adjustment professionals.

Thanks to professional development activities, investigations conducted by the Syndic’s Office, as well as Accent Déonto, which provides information to a variety of client groups, the Chambre de l’assurance de dommages (ChAD) has identified recurrent compliance issues that can negatively impact the protection of the public. The mandatory course takes a preventive approach that allows certified members to reflect on their own actions, review their knowledge, and ultimately improve their professional practice. It thus aims to reduce the number of complaints filed with the Syndic’s Office and better protect the public.

Furthermore, mandatory compliance courses are preventive measures that have already proven their worth in a number of other financial services organizations, as well as in certain professional orders that have introduced similar courses. The ChAD has thus harmonized its approach to professional development with the approach used by its peers, thus enabling it to maintain and upgrade its certified members’ skills while also ensuring better protection of the public. Professionals are required1 to pass a course worth two professional development units (PDUs) in Compliance that the ChAD has developed and offered every two years since the 2016-2017 reference period.

1. This change to the  Regulation respecting the compulsory professional development of the  Chambre de l’assurance de dommages was published in the Gazette officielle du Québec March 18, 2015, page 375

The 2024-2026 mandatory course will enable you to understand and implement best practices that agents and brokers use in their advisory role, and that claims adjusters use in real-life situations in order to explain and inform.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the advisory role as it relates to new business, non-certified members collecting information, and the impact of supply-chain issues on car and home insurance;
  • Understand and apply the rules of the three-step renewal process;
  • Understand the advisory role when cancelling or terminating a mandate.

(The specific objectives of the version for claims adjusters will be added soon.)
